If you want to find out more about the latest WaveRunners and the revamped 1.9L HO Yamaha marine engine, you’ve come to the right place.

We at JetDrift have compiled all you need to know about the 2024 WaveRunner lineup into this post!

What’s New in 2024?

In a nutshell, the key upgrades of the 2024 Yamaha PWC lineup are as follows:
  • Redesigned 1.9L HO Yamaha marine engine
  • Renamed GP1800R series
  • New features on the GP HO (formerly: GP1800R HO)
  • FX HOs have the 7” Connext Touch Screen
  • New materials
  • New color schemes and graphics
  • Slightly higher price tags ($200-$400)
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty and talk about the new engine detail!

New 1.9L HO Yamaha Engine

There’s no question that the most exciting novelty this year is the new 1.9L HO Yamaha marine engine. This redesigned larger-displacement 200hp engine replaces its proven 1.8L, 180hp predecessor.

In a nutshell, the key improvements of this new engine are as follows:

  • Larger displacement (+ 86cc)
  • Higher compression ratio
  • 20hp gain
  • Less restrictive air intake system
  • Redesigned cylinder head, throttle body, and exhaust manifold
  • Upgraded cooling system
  • Revamped camshaft
This power source is claimed to be the largest factory-built PWC engine and with good reason.

This purpose-built 4-stroke, naturally-aspirated, 16-valve, inline-4 Yamaha marine engine has a remarkable displacement of 1.9L (1898cc) and produces 200hp.

In contrast, the largest power sources of competitor manufacturers are Sea-Doo’s 1630cc Rotax triple and Kawasaki’s 1498cc inline-4 Jet Ski engines.

This new Yamaha engine is matched with a revamped intake grate and a new overlapping impeller, nestled in the high-performance 155mm jet pump.

These upgrades combined with increased engine power ensure a faster top speed and quicker acceleration. It also offers smoother idling and running at any RPMs.

The new 1.9L HO engine, the redesigned intake grate, and a more advanced impeller come standard with the five non-supercharged HO (High-Output) WaveRunners, including:

  • VX Cruiser HO
  • VX Limited HO
  • GP HO
  • FX HO
  • FX Cruiser HO
Interestingly, “SVHO” models are still powered by the supercharged configuration of the 1.8L power mill.

2024 WaveRunner Models

2024 Yamaha EX Line

It’s safe to say that the 2024 Yamaha EX series has been carried over from last season without any noticeable changes. Classed as “Rec-Lite” models, Yamaha markets these entry-level WaveRunners for $7,799-$10,799.

As a rule of thumb, each EX shares the same hull and the fuel-efficient 4-stroke, 1,049cc, DOHC, tripe-cylinder TR-1 marine engine rated at 100hp.

Prices of these affordable WaveRunners have been uniformly increased by $200 for this season:

  • 2024 Yamaha EX: $7,799
  • 2024 Yamaha EX Sport: $9,099
  • 2024 Yamaha EX Deluxe: $10,199
  • 2024 Yamaha EX Limited: $10,799

2024 Yamaha Freestyle WaveRunners

Marketed as a “Freestyle” WaveRunner, the JetBlaster is actually an EX with some extra ponies and the Spark TRIXX accessory package.

Although this ski produces 10hp more than standard EX models, it’s much bigger and less responsive than the namesake vintage WaveBlaster series. You can get the JetBlaster for $10,899 this year, while the deservedly popular 4-stroke SuperJet is available for $10,699.

Regarding power sources, both of these freestyle WaveRunners borrow their TR-1 marine engine from the EX series.

2024 Yamaha VX Series

If you are looking for the best-selling WaveRunners, the VX family is for you. These “Recreation” WaveRunner models come with larger bodies, reasonable capacities, and extremely reliable, naturally aspirated engine options.

You can expect the starting price of a 2024 Yamaha VX WaveRunner to be anywhere from $10,199 to $15,299.

The cheapest VX WaveRunner right now is the simple VX-C ($10,199) which is designed with rental companies in mind.

This model, just like the base VX, the VX Deluxe, and the VX Limited, is designed with the 1049cc, 4-stroke, 3-cylinder TR-1 engine rated at 125hp. (It’s the same triple power mill you can find in the EX and Freestyle series, just tuned for 125hp.)

In contrast, High-Output VX WaveRunners including the VX Cruiser HO and VX Limited HO, enjoy the upgraded 1.9L, inline-4 engine rated at 200hp.

Each of these VX modes can accommodate the Rec Deck accessory platform, which is virtually the Japanese equivalent of the Sea-Doo LinQ system. The latest VX WaveRunner models and their starting prices are as follows:

  • 2024 VX-C: $10,199 (rental model)
  • 2024 VX: $11,399
  • 2024 VX Deluxe: $12,399
  • 2024 VX Cruiser: $12,799
  • 2024 VX Cruiser HO: $13,299
  • 2024 VX Limited: $13,699
  • 2024 VX Limited HO: $14,049
The price increase of these models is only $200-$300, which is significantly less compared to last year’s increases ($700-$900).

2024 Yamaha GP Line

For some reason, Yamaha renamed its GP series for the 2024 model year.

The GP1800R HO is now just GP HO while the GP1800R SVHO is rebranded as GP SVHO.

As their name suggests, the former comes with the naturally-aspirated High-Output (HO) power source, which is now the revamped 1.9L 200hp engine.

As reported by the Watercraft Journal, this engine propels the 2024 GP HO to a speed of 62-63 mph measured with GPS, which can be slightly more on the speedo.

To the greatest delight of many performance-minded buyers, the GP HO inherited the features of the GP SVHO, including the auto-trim system and the launch control.

This ski is available for $14,499 while its 2023 price tag was $14,199. This means for $300 we get a more powerful 1.9L, 200hp engine, a slightly upgraded propulsion system, as well as the aforementioned features of the SVHO.

That sounds like a good deal!

Unlike its smaller brother, the supercharged GP SVHO doesn’t have very many changes for this season except for a new name and color scheme. Its price was increased $300 resulting in an MSRP of $16,799.

2024 Yamaha FX Line

Let’s talk about the luxury FX WaveRunners, which are offered for $15,699-$20,399 in 2024.

Marketed as the naturally-aspirated models in this breed, the FX HO and FX Cruiser HO now house the upgraded 1.9L HO engine rated at 200hp. The top speed of this ski is also 62-63 mph on the GPS, which is more than likely 64-65 mph on the speedo.

The more advanced FX SVHO line still has the proven supercharged 1.8L, 250hp engine option. These models include the FX SVHO, the FX Cruiser SVHO, and the flagship FX Limited SVHO.

The top speed of these skis is uniformly a (limited) 67 mph.

What’s new on the 2024 FX WaveRunner line?

Aside from the larger engine on HO models, each FX WaveRunner comes standard with the 7-inch Connext touchscreen. (Last season’s HO models housed the smaller 5-inch version.)

This innovative screen provides a plethora of information and allows you to customize your ride.

Listing all the features of the Connext screen is nearly impossible, but the most important ones are as follows:

  • Displays security and function mode
  • Bluetooth smartphone connectivity
  • GPS mapping
  • Upgraded drive control functions
  • Audio connectivity
  • And more
What’s more, each FX WaveRunner (except for the FX HO) comes standard with a factory-built audio system, of which the features are as follows:
  • Easy-to-use control pad
  • 4.5” waterproof speakers
  • Integrated amplifier
  • Battery protection (low-voltage regulator)
The list of available 2024 FX WaveRunners includes:
  • 2024 FX HO: $15,699 (up: $300)
  • 2024 FX Cruiser HO: $16,999 (up: $300)
  • 2024 FX SVHO: $18,899 (up: $299)
  • 2024 FX Cruiser SVHO: $19,399(up $400)
  • 2024 FX Limited SVHO: $20,399 (up $400)
While last year, we saw massive $1,000-$2,000 price increases in this class, the 2024 FW WaveRunner prices only climbed up $300-$400.

Despite this, the starting price of the top-of-the-line FX Limited SVHO exceeds the psychological price limit of $20,000.

Without a doubt, prices of competitor flagship PWCs are also in the same neighborhood, regardless of manufacturer!
