2020 PWC Comparison
As you can see based on the numbers above there are wide variations in 2020 PWC prices.
The price of a watercraft has much to do with its size, build quality, and all of the extra features that make it unique. But one of the most important specifications that determine the price is always going to be its performance!
Price tag vs. Performance Calculation
When it comes to the price tag on PWCs, the rule of thumb is the more horsepower, the higher the price. Let’s make a simple calculation: How much does one single horsepower cost in each of these model lines?
Krash watercrafts: $97-$129
As you can see, the cost of one horsepower is in the same range in each category.
If you are looking for the most horsepower for your money, the Kawasaki Ultra 310X is for you, as you can get 310 Horsepower for $15,299, which is only $49/horsepower!
At the high end of the spectrum is the Krash Footrocket Pro with a price tag of $16,799. If you choose this model, you will pay $129 for every single horsepower. But don’t forget, this watercraft has the best power to weight ratio on the market!
If you are looking at all the models, you will find that the average price for one horsepower is $75.
Discover the 7 Main PWC Categories
There are 7 major categories in which PWCs are divided. You can find out about all 7 here:
Below you can read more about each of the categories, find out what the pros and cons of each are, and get some tips on why you should choose a specific category:
Rec-Lite Category: “Small & Affordable”
If you are determined to buy a new watercraft rather than a used one, and looking for the most affordable models, you should take a look at the Rec-Lite category.
Rec-Lite, as the name suggests, includes PWCs that are typically smaller and lighter than the average watercrafts, which means they provide really fun rides!
In the past, all PWCs had much smaller and more nimble hulls, and riders typically rode on them alone. That’s why these machines are called personal watercrafts!
But over the years the dimensions on PWCs started growing larger and larger, so many of them ended up being alternatives of boats!
Because of this, the market was still in need of smaller models. So, finally the Sea-Doo released the Spark series in 2014, and the Rec-Lite category was born.
Yamaha also released their EX Line to compete with Sea-Doo’s Sparks, and these two model lines still exist in the Rec-Lite category.
When it comes to performance numbers, it’s a well-known fact that Rec-Lite models are not famous for their high horsepower numbers. But they are famous for their low-price tags and maintenance costs!
These models are typically powered by 899-1049 cc non-supercharged engines that usually offer 60 -110 HP. If you want to compare the top speeds of all current models, you will also find our PWC top speed chart useful.
If you check the Rec-Lite models’ capacity, you will find that Sea-Doo Sparks are available with 2 and 3 passenger capacity, while Yamaha EX is only available in 3-seater capacity.
It’s also good to know that the Rec-Lite models’ seats are not as roomy and comfortable as the seats on larger PWC models. So, in the reality, a 2-seater Rec-Lite is comfortable for one adult and a child, and the 3-seater is comfortable for 2 adults and one child.
How much does a PWC cost in the Rec-Lite category? Depending on the model and the manufacturer, the prices in 2020 go from $5,499 to $9,399.

Recreation: “Best for Beginners”
Recreation models are a great way to get your first feel for running a PWC.
They come with larger hulls, which means they are more stable than the Rec-Lites. A bigger hull also means more weight capacity, as well as much more storage capacity. If you are a family man or plan on regularly riding with passengers and don’t want to break the bank, the Recreation category is for you.
Their main advantage is that most of these models are already equipped with brake systems as standard (like iBR or RIDE). With these units you can expect to have smoother and safer rides, and a better riding experience.
Because of the features mentioned above, Recreation watercrafts are widely considered to be the best models for beginner riders. How much does a PWC cost in the Recreation category? You can expect to see price tags from $8,999 to $11,799 in 2020.
You can discover and compare the current Recreation PWC prices and models here.
Performance Category: “For Speed Junkies”
As the name implies, Performance PWCs are the fastest models on the market, equipped with the highest performance engines available. These are the sports cars of the PWC industry, and this easily explains their hefty price tags.
Most of these models come with 1498-1812 cc, 4 stroke, supercharged engines, producing 180-310 horsepower depending on the model. They reach higher top speeds and accelerate faster than any other type of watercraft.
Performance models are also quite expensive to maintain due to their more expensive, high-end performance parts like the supercharger. They also have higher levels of fuel consumption!
Most of these models offer a large seat capacity of 3 riders, but some of them have a smaller seat capacity of only 2 riders.
If you are looking for the highest performance level or plan to race your jet ski, a Performance PWC would be best for you. However, if you are a beginner it’s highly recommended that you choose a model with less performance, as purchasing a supercharged PWC without experience could be dangerous.
Are you wondering how much a Performance PWC costs? You can expect to see price tags from $12,299 to $16,299 in 2020.
You can find out all about the 2020 Performance PWC models and prices here.
Luxury Category: “The High-End Models”
Performance PWCs are definitely the most powerful machines around but Luxury models are not very far behind. (Sea-Doo calls these the “Touring” category.)
These watercrafts often hit the same top speed and acceleration levels as the Performance models.
But if you compare them closely with the Performance category, you can see that the Luxury models are available with engines in the wider performance range of 155 HP to 310 HP.
Therefore, in this category you can find many more non-supercharged models that come with lower price tags as well as lower maintenance costs.
On the other hand, they are sometimes heavier, slightly less responsive, and less agile during operation. This is due to their larger size and different hulls, which are designed to make your rides less bumpy. It’s also good to know that all of these models have a seat capacity of 3 riders.
Luxury watercrafts, however, are pure class. These models are known to come with an array of extra features that make them more stylish and comfortable. Their price tags reflect this as well, because these models are the most expensive Jet Skis, Sea-Doos and WaveRunners in each year.
If you are looking for some luxury, or planning to regularly make long trips, this category is likely the best one for you.
And we have to mention here that tons of cool features mean more conveniences and more fun on the water, but they also mean less reliability. It’s easy to see that a simpler model would be less prone to breaking down!
How much does a PWC cost in the Luxury category? Depending on the model and the manufacturer, the prices in 2020 go from $ 12,999 to $17,999.

Tow Sports & Sport Fishing
When it comes to Sea-Doo this manufacturer is famous for its large fleet and special models designed for different purposes. They offer a special PWC for fishing purposes, namely the 2020 Sea-Doo Fish Pro.
As PWC fishing is becoming more and more popular in the U.S., Sea-Doo came up with the great idea of designing a special watercraft dedicated to the needs of fishermen. If you are engaged in PWC fishing, or just thinking about it, you should take a look at the Fish Pro!
Tow sports are another widely popular activity on the water. Tubing, wakeskating and wakeboarding have been going on behind boats for a long time. Thanks to the large hulls on today’s PWCs, 3 passenger seats and powerful engines, you can very easily tow with these watercrafts.
Although there are some drawbacks to towing with a PWC, more and more riders are choosing a PWC over a boat for watersport purposes.
Sea-Doo thought of this too and offers two models that are designed for watersports, the new Sea-Doo Wake 170 and the 2020 Sea-Doo Wake Pro 230. These models are equipped with several useful features like wakeboard racks, and PWC wakeboard pylons!
Almost in an exclusive world of their own, the Stand up PWC category is unique. Unlike other categories, you can ride these crafts in a standing position.
Stand-ups are a more engaging and athletic activity because riders need to stand up while operating it. This could get pretty challenging for a non-athletic rider. Riding a stand-up PWC definitely requires some skill and practice, so it’s certainly not for everyone.
And one of the main drawbacks is that you will be wet on these more often than not. However, it could be great fun on sunny summer days. But when the weather turns a little chilly, many riders no longer think it’s much fun falling off into the water!
On the other hand, Stand-ups do have some advantages. They are typically smaller in size and weight, which means you can handle, tow and launch them much easier. They also come with lower price tags and cheaper to maintain in terms of cost.
Stand-ups are strictly solo jet skis that do not allow for shared experiences with family or friends. They are also inadequate for long distance cruises or tubing.

How much does a Stand-up PWC cost in 2020? Depending on the model and the manufacturer, purchase prices go from $ 8,699 to $16,999!
