2021 Yamaha Superjet

Let’s start with arguably the most exciting model, the new 4-stroke Superjet!

After 30 years of production, the 2-stroke engine was discontinued, and Yamaha introduced the brand new 4-stroke Superjet:

Let’s look at the key features of this new Yamaha standup:
  • The hull was redesigned from scratch
  • The power source is the TR-1 4-stroke engine (3-cylinder, 1049cc, 100 HP)
  • Racing-style, adjustable handle pole (with 2-inch extension)
  • Dimensions: 95.7 inches long, 30 inches wide, 31.1 inches high
  • Dry Weight: 375 pounds
  • Fuel capacity: 5 gallons
  • Top speed: around 54 mph
  • Adjustable steering nozzle
  • Digital gauge showing the riding mode and the fuel level
  • Legal in all states, no racing license needed
  • MSRP: $9,499
The new 4-stroke Superjet is powered with the TR-1 engine, which can be found in the EX series and some VX WaveRunners as well. It’s a reliable and fuel-efficient power source, but unfortunately, it only delivers 100 HP.

Although this is 27 HP more than what the 2-stroke engine produced, it’s still significantly less power compared to competitor standups. In contrast, the Kawasaki SX-R 1500 is powered with a 160 HP engine, while Krash PWCs come with 130 HP 2-stroke engines.

The new Superjet is not only more powerful, but also noticeably larger. Compared to its predecessor, the new 4-stroke Yamaha standup is 7.5 inches longer and 3.2 inches wider. Moreover, it’s 69 pounds heavier!

Fortunately, it’s still not as bulky as the competitor SX-R 1500, which is 142 pounds heavier and 8.8 inches longer.

2021 Yamaha EX Series

One new model in the 2021 Yamaha WaveRunner lineup is the EX Limited. This new model was designed and equipped for tow-sport lovers.

With its $9,599 price tag, this is currently the most expensive WaveRunner in the EX family. For this price, we can expect plenty of features and accessories, such as:

  • Portable Bluetooth speakers
  • Custom design and mats
  • 2 Yamaha fenders
  • Wider sponsons
  • A tube with inflator and towrope
  • Cleats, tow hook, and tube holder
  • Wet storage on the stern
  • Dry bow storage
  • Removable stern storage bag
  • 12V outlet
It seems if you are considering tow sports with a WaveRunner, you can’t go wrong with the new EX Limited!

Beyond this model, the other EX WaveRunners remain unchanged – except for their higher price tags and new bright colors of course:

When it comes to performance, every 2021 Yamaha EX is powered with the same 1049cc, 4-stroke, 3-cylinder engine, which delivers 100 HP.

If you are looking for a more powerful entry-level WaveRunner, the EXR is for you as it produces 110 HP.

2021 Yamaha VX Series

Besides the Superjet and the GP series, the biggest changes were made on the VX Family, and with good reason.

VX WaveRunners are among the highest selling PWCs year-after-year, therefore they deserved a hearty upgrade! Let’s see what’s new on the 2021 VX WaveRunners:

  • Completely redesigned top deck (with many FX features)
  • Bigger footwells with self-draining system
  • Bigger rear platform
  • New, more comfortable seat
  • Color LCD screen with touchpad
  • Waterproof speakers are available as an option
  • 12V and USB outlets on some models
  • Large watertight glovebox
  • Waterproof storage below the rear seat
Beyond these basic features, you can easily attach many other accessories to the VX WaveRunners with the unique RAM mount system. This means you can easily attach a GPS or a fish finder, without drilling holes into the deck!

The other exciting model in the 2021 Yamaha WaveRunner lineup is the new 2021 VX Limited HO.

This brand new WaveRunner is powered with the same 1.812cc, 180 HP, non-supercharged 4-stroke engine like the best-selling VX Cruiser HO. All other VX models share the same, 1.049cc TR-1 engine which produces 110 HP.

The 2021 VX Limited HO is equipped with many useful accessories. The package includes a cover, fenders, Bluetooth speakers, 12V outlet, a tube with holder and inflator, and a towrope with bag.

2021 Yamaha FX Series

Let’s move on to the big brothers, the FX WaveRunner line. If we take a closer look at the 2021 WaveRunner lineup, it’s safe to say that these models are pretty much unchanged.

The only changes are the new colors, slightly higher prices, and some new optional accessories.

This means 5 different models are available in the FX Family. The FX HO and the FX Cruiser HO are powered with the 1.812cc, non-supercharged 180 HP engine option. If you need more power, you should take a look at the FX SVHO line, as these WaveRunners come with supercharged 250 HP power sources.

Their design is also very attractive, so they would definitely be worth a look:

2021 Yamaha GP Series

This won’t be a complete 2021 WaveRunner Lineup review without the legendary GP series.

There are only two members in this family:The smaller brother is the 2021 GP1800R HO which is available for $12,549. This model features a non-supercharged, 1.812cc, 180 HP engine.

The flagship WaveRunner in Yamaha’s fleet is arguably the 2021 GP1800R SVHO. This craft comes with a more powerful and aggressive, 250 HP supercharged engine. For this racing-style WaveRunner be prepared to pay $14,749.

Are you wondering what’s new in the 2021 Yamaha GP series?

  • NanoXcel2 material (18% less weight)
  • Completely new top deck and seat
  • Wider footwells with self-draining system
  • Adjustable, racing-style handlebar
  • Auto Trim system
  • Optional audio system
  • USB and 12V outlet
  • Upgraded intake grate and jet pump
  • Relocated fuel tank, which means a lower center of gravity
  • New supercharger clutch design
  • Less cavitation
  • 15% more storage space
The coolest new feature of the GP series is arguably the Auto Trim system. Simply put, this system automatically pushes the front of the hull down when you decelerate before a sharp turn. After the turn, the system lifts the front to help acceleration. This results in better stability, more aggressive turns, and faster acceleration. That’s why this feature is also called “Cornering Control.Although the acceleration of the 2021 GP1800R is improved, its top speed remains the same.
