The 2007-2009 Sea-Doo GTX 155 was the successor to the first 4-stroke Sea-Doo, the 2002-2006 GTX 4-TEC. As the name suggests, the 1494cc, 155 HP Rotax engine was carried over to the GTX 155, but it did get a refreshed top deck and some innovative new features. 2007-2009 Sea-Doo GTX 155 Hull and Top Deck

The Canadian manufacturer revamped the body of the Sea-Doo GTX ever so slightly for the 2007 season.

The revamped GTX platform measured 130.3 inches in length, 48 inches in width, and 47.2 inches in height.

Like its dimensions, the weight of the new model didn’t change significantly. The GTX 155 weighed 795 pounds, 10 pounds more than its predecessor.

(In contrast, the entry-level base GTI 130 measured 127 inches in length and only weighed 723 pounds.)

The hull of the GTX 155 was repainted black but the design was carried over unchanged. It still featured the annoying OPAS fins, which were prone to activating in unwanted moments.

The biggest changes were seen on the top deck, which got an entirely new front hood and a stepped seat with larger bolsters.

Storage compartments included a rear storage basket, a glovebox, and standard bow storage. The latter featured an innovative sealed cap that made the storage bin waterproof.

The engine of the 2007-2009 Sea-Doo GTX 155 was a 4-stroke, 1494cc, SOHC, 3-cylinder Rotax 4-TEC engine rated at 155 HP. This power source was carried over from the GTX 4-TEC without any noticeable changes.

This power mill was the first 4-stroke Sea-Doo engine offered in three different output variants, 130, 155, and 215 HP.

The latter was used in the flagship GTX 215, as well as performance models including the RXP 215 and the RXT 215.

Therefore, the GTX 155 was highly recommended for water activities like fishing, tow sports, and even touring.

Despite its large hull and naturally-aspirated engine option, the 2007-2009 Sea-Doo GTX 155 could hit 55-57 mph in stock condition.

2007-2009 Sea-Doo GTX 155 Problems

Although the GTX 155 was considered a bulletproof Sea-Doo, it still had some minor flaws, including:

  • Awkward thumb throttle
  • OPAS malfunctions
  • Lack of a brake system
One of the biggest flaws of the ’07-’09 GTX 155 was arguably its outdated thumb throttle lever.

Unlike modern finger throttle levers, this design caused a lot of hand fatigue and ensured less precise handling.

Another issue with the GTX 155 was its deflective OPAS fins or rudders, which would come into operation even when they shouldn’t. Fortunately, they could be easily removed.

On top of that, the ’07-’09 GTX 155 still came without a brake system. This was no surprise since Sea-Doo’s iBR brake and reverse system wasn’t introduced until late 2008.
