2000-2001 Sea-Doo GTX DI Review
Sea-Doo introduced its 2-stroke GTX line for the ’93 season. Over the following years, this model line underwent many changes through various generations, including:

The high-end Sea-Doo GTX DI (a.k.a. GTX 947 DI) was introduced for the Millennium. This ski was touted as the most luxurious PWC at that time, and with good reason!
It was not only equipped with many bells and whistles, but it also had the all-new Rotax 947 DI engine rated at 130 HP. This power source was a 951cc, 2-stroke twin featuring a digital inductive ignition, open-loop water cooling, oil injection, RAVE power valves, and an advanced fuel injection system.
The GTX DI shared this engine with other direct-injected 2-stroke Sea-Doo models like the RX DI, XP DI, and the 4-seater LRV DI.
As the name suggests (DI= Direct Injection), the 947 DI engine came with direct orbital fuel injection, which was considered a “real” fuel injection system. This technology used high-pressure air to atomize the fuel before injecting it into the top of the cylinder heads.
Since the fuel was injected into the high-pressure side of the engine, the 947 DI engine required a secondary system that included an air compressor to overcome the pressure in the cylinders.
(In contrast, the semi-direct fuel injection system of the 787 RFI engine only utilized a fuel pump because it injected the fuel into the low-pressure side of the cylinders.)
Unfortunately, this direct-injection system added a lot of complexity to the new 947 DI engine. Because of this, this unit was much harder to diagnose and repair than its carbed counterparts.
Therefore, if you are considering buying a 2-stroke Sea-Doo GTX, it’s highly recommended that you stay clear of the DI engine.
This power mill provides great fuel economy and amazing performance – as long as it’s running.
But once it has any malfunctions, you will face a long, difficult troubleshooting process.
The engine in the GTX DI was planted into its large GTX hull, measuring 124 inches in length, 48 inches in width, and 42 inches in height. This innovative platform had a more modern design that was larger than the outdated GS platform.
The top deck incorporated three separate storage units, comprising a bow storage, a small glovebox, and an under-seat storage tray. The ski also had a reasonable-sized, 15-gallon fuel cell and a 1.6-gallon oil tank.
Keeping convenience in mind, the GTX DI featured a long, 2-piece seat rated for three riders. Unlike the early 3-seater Sea-Doos, this craft was stable and predictable even with three adults on board.
The top speed of the Sea-Doo GTX DI was about 54-55 mph in stock condition, which could be pushed up to 58-60 mph with some aftermarket mods.
