1994 Sea-Doo GTX 650 Review
The 1994 Sea-Doo GTX 650 (a.k.a. Sea-Doo GTX 657) replaced the underpowered GTX 580.
Although the new GTX 650 inherited its platform from its predecessor, it came with a more powerful, dual-carb Rotax 657 engine rated at 70 HP. This power mill was a 650cc, 2-stroke twin featuring a CDI ignition, open-loop cooling system, oil injection, and two diaphragm-type Mikuni carburetors.
As expected, the larger displacement resulted in worse fuel consumption figures. The GTX 650 had about 7.8 GPH at WOT, so its 8.7-gallon fuel tank offered a cruising time of just 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Besides the engine, the propulsion system of the GTX also saw a major upgrade, as it came with the more durable Bombardier bronze vane pump.
Regarding dimensions, the GTX 650 was 119 inches long, 46.9 inches wide, and 47.4 inches high, and it weighed 484 pounds. The ski was built on the “straked” GTS/GTX hull, pretty much the same as you would find under 1992-1993 3-seater Sea-Doo models.
The body of the ski had a green/white color scheme with a purple handlebar cover, rear grab handle, and rub rails.
Keeping tow sports in mind, the 1994 GTX 650 was also equipped with mirrors and a gauge set, including a digital fuel gauge with an injection oil pilot lamp and an analog speedometer.
