2025 Kawasaki Ultra 160 LX-S Angler Review

Hull

The Ultra 160 LX-S Angler is based on the completely redesigned Kawasaki Ultra PWC hull, which was introduced for the 2022 season.

This platform is used on the entire full-sized Kawasaki line, including the supercharger Ultra 310 and the naturally-aspirated Ultra 160 series.

In terms of dimensions, this body measures 140.9 inches in length, 49.6 inches in width, and 46.5 inches in height with an impressive 22.5-degree deadrise.

Due to its fishing accessories, the Ultra 160 LX-S Anlger is significantly heavier than its base counterpart. The curb weight of the latter is 964 pounds while a fully equipped Angler weighs 1056 pounds.

The Anger also comes standard with a flat bench PWC seat that allows you to easily turn sideways or move backwards while sitting. In return, it doesn’t provide as much support as bolstered saddles.

Another great feature of the ski is its 5-position tilt steering system, which can adjust the position of the handlebars based on your body size and riding style. It especially comes in handy during stand-up riding.

You can expect the overall storage capacity of the ski to be 44.5 gallons, which includes a standard 32.8-gallon bow storage, a 0.7-gallon stern storage, and the unique 10.6-gallon dual gloveboxes.

They are closed with gullwing side doors and feature a 0.5-gallon watertight phone case, which can be opted with a USB port.

Last but not least, the ski has a distinctive Crystal White & Timberline Green color scheme.

Engine

The heart of the Ultra 160 LX-S Angler is the proven naturally-aspirated, 4-stroke, 1498cc, inline-4 Kawasaki marine engine rated at 160hp. To the greatest regret of many fans, the Angler is only marketed with this power option, so it is not available with the more powerful supercharged 310hp engine version.

However, the standard 160hp engine still comes with many advanced technologies including a TCBI ignition, DOHC valve system, DFI fuel injection (with 60mm throttle body), open-loop cooling system, manual trim, and more.

It’s paired with a 155mm axial-flow, single-stage jet pump housing a 3-blade, stainless steel, oval-edge impeller.

This high-performance propulsion system is completed with an innovative electric brake and reverse system.

Labeled as Kawasaki Smart Reverse with Deceleration (KSRD), this unit is clearly inspired by Sea-Doo’s iBR and Yamaha’s RiDE.

Features

Just like the competitor Sea-Doo Fish Pros, the Kawasaki Angler also comes standard with a wide range of fishing-intended goodies.

In a nutshell, the key features and accessories of this Kawasaki fishing Jet Ski are as follows:

  • Rear rack with multi-purpose storage packs and four fishing rod holders
  • Functional storage featuring an easy side-access storage space
  • ORCA 58QT cooler
  • Front fishing rod holder
  • Flat two-section fishing bench seat
  • 7-inch TFT instrumentation with smartphone connectivity via RIDEOLOGY THE APP
  • Launch control and power mode selection
  • 7-inch Garmin Chartplotter and fish finder
  • Electronic cruise control
  • LED accent lights
  • Side floats
  • Special Color & Graphics

There’s no question that the most unique features of the Angler are the special side floats.

They are designed to improve stability and floatation at lower speeds and when the ski is stopped. When the hull is on plane they rise above the water so they don’t increase resistance.

Even though these collars don’t provide additional storage space like some of their aftermarket variants, they can still be used as a footrest while fishing.

Dedicated fishing jet skis always came standard with a rear rack, and the Anger is no exception.

This well-designed rack is attached to the rear deck with the innovative Multi-Mount cargo rail system, which does a similar job as Sea-Doo’s LinQ system.

Kawasaki’s fishing rack comes standard with removable multipurpose storage packs and pockets, four fishing rod holders, and a 14.5-gallon ORCA hard cooler.

You can also find an additional rod holder mounted on the front of the left gunwale.

Beside the above, other standard features on the ski include:

  • ULTRA rear deck (extended rear platform)
  • Wind-deflecting meter visor
  • Deeper and wider footwells
  • KSRD – Kawasaki’s brake and reverse system
  • Multi-Mount Bars
  • New front bumper with Kawasaki Splash Deflectors (KSD)
  • Raised rear bumper
  • Built-in cleats
  • Dual mirrors
  • Dual cup holders
  • Foldable reboarding step
  • Adjustable tilt handlebars
  • 7” TFT color dashboard
  • Tilt steering
  • Sponsons
  • Tow hook
  • Front and stern eyelets
  • Deck mats
  • Drain plugs
  • River Mark emblem
  • Bow storage: 32.8 gallons
  • Dual “gullwing” glovebox: 10.5 gallons (with a 0.5-gallon watertight pocket)
  • Rear wet storage: 0.7 gallons

Unfortunately, the Angler doesn’t have the Jetsound audio package and the rearview camera, which are standard equipment on the base Ultra 160 LX-S.

In return, these skis share the innovative 7-inch color TFT dashboard, of which the functions are as follows:

  • Tachometer
  • Speedometer
  • Compass
  • Drive Mode Indicator
  • Cruise Control Indicator
  • Electric Trim Control indicator
  • Power Mode Indicator
  • Clock
  • Temperature Meter (Outside/ Outside Water)
  • Fuel Level Warning Indicator
  • Fuel Gauge
  • Shift Indicator
  • Bluetooth Connection Indicator
  • Multifunction Display (Trip Meter, Trip Time, Oil Temp., Water Temp.)

Performance

Thanks to its 22.5-degree V-shaped hull, the Angler has an outstanding rough water performance.

Its deep keel cuts through the chop with ease while its wide hull remains stable even in rough water conditions. What’s more, it ensures sporty cornering abilities, despite the body being so large.

In return, it proves to be less stable at slow speeds and when stationary.

This is why the Angler comes with a pair of side float units from the factory. These stabilizer collars are mounted on the rear sides of the hull to increase stability and buoyancy.

Just like any other Ultra Jet Ski, the Angler also houses a 7-position electric trim system. This allows you to tailor the vertical angle of the jet nozzle according to external conditions and the load.

Therefore, the riding experience is smooth and predictable and isn’t spoiled by porpoising or other riding issues. Its pump also remains hooked even on the chop.

The bow is equipped with unique Kawasaki Splash Deflectors, which keep a significant part of the water spray away from the cockpit.

You can expect the top speed of the ski to be around 50 mph under ideal conditions.

Sure, it’s about 15-20 mph slower than supercharged models, but the slower speed goes hand-in-hand with much better gas mileage.
