2025 Sea-Doo Switch Fish Review

Hull and Top Deck

The Canadian BRP re-entered the boat market in 2022 with the introduction of its Switch mini pontoon boat series.

Over the years, this fleet was expanded with some new models, including the 2025 Switch Fish. As its name suggests, this vessel was designed with fishing adventures in mind.

Just like any other Sea-Doo pontoon boat, the Switch Fish features a tri-hull design.

But unlike traditional pontoons, this hull is made of the Sea-Doo-exclusive Polytec.

Based on the Sea-Doo GTI PWC, the deeper center hull houses the engine, jet pump, fuel tank, and storage unit.

In contrast, the wider outer hulls are filled with buoyancy foam.

The Switch Fish is available in two different sizes, the Fish 18 model measures 17.4 feet, while the Fish 21 measures 20.4 feet in length.

You can expect the other dimensions of these variants to be the same, including the 93.5-inch beam and  81.1-inch height.

This is no surprise since the 21 is an extended version of the 18. The rider capacity of these is 10 and 8 people, respectively.

The modular top deck of the Switch features tiles in a grid pattern which can accommodate furniture or features, including LinQ accessories.

Thanks to this versatile design, you can literally rearrange the deck layout in seconds.

In 2025, the Switch Fish will be available with a distinctive Wilderness Green color scheme.

Features

Besides basic features like a swim platform, bolstered captain seat, sofa, and a bimini top, the Switch Fish comes standard with a wide range of model-specific features.

In a nutshell, the most important of these are as follows:

Corner doors: The Switch enjoys rear and bow corner doors, which allow easy access to the water.

Fishing pedestal seats: The boat also comes standard with two highly adjustable pedestal fishing seats. Thanks to the modular tiles, you can easily relocate these seats anywhere on the deck.

Trolling motor: The standard Garmin Force Kraken trolling motor comes with a powerful battery system. This motor can be used in either salt or freshwater environments and features an autopilot function.

Trolling motor storage: When it’s out of use, you can store the trolling motor and its accessories in a dedicated storage box.

Garmin Fish Finders: The Switch fish also enjoys dual 7” Garmin Fishfinders, which are connected wirelessly.

Quick-attach livewell: Utilizing an integrated water pump, the quick-attach 18-gallon cooler can also be used as a livewell.

Rod storage: You can safely store your fishing rods in the easy-access rod storage.

Other standard features of the 2025 Switch Fish include a BRP audio system, LED navigation and courtesy lights, a reboarding ladder, ski-tow eye, integrated cleats, LinQ attachment points, a 12V outlet, USB ports, and more.

You can load your gear in numerous storage compartments including an under-deck storage unit (61.9 gal.), under-seat storage (52.8 gal.) glovebox (1.1 gal.), anchor storage, and storage nets.

Engine

Under the hood, you can find the proven Rotax 1630 ACE engine. This 4-stroke, 1630cc, triple-cylinder power mill delivers 170hp in a naturally-aspirated and 230hp in a supercharged configuration.

The smaller Fish 18 can be opted with either the 170 or the 230hp variant, while the Fish 21 is exclusively available with the latter.

Marketed as the largest-displacement Sea-Doo engine, the Rotax 1630 ACE packs many advanced technologies like a closed-loop cooling system, brake and reverse system (iBR), and an advanced debris removal system (iDF).

Engine data are displayed on the easy-to-read 4.5” digital display.

Its main functions include the speedometer, tachometer, clock, fuel data, and driving modes.

Performance

Powered by the 230hp engine option, the top speed of the Switch Fish 21 is 34-35 mph on the speedo.

You can also expect the top speed of the 18-foot model to come close to this ballpark.

The engine delivers instant power through jet propulsion, which gets the boat on plane with ease.

Since it’s literally built on a jet ski hull, the Switch Fish leans much more into the corners than traditional tri-hulled pontoons.

This attitude makes cruising more playful and fun for both the captain and the crew.

The other feature that makes this boat so unique is its steering system.

Instead of an industry-standard steering wheel, the Fish pontoon is designed with tilting handlebars, finger throttle, and reverse levers.

Just like many other parts, these are also borrowed from Sea-Doo’s PWC division.

Even if you’ve never ridden a jet ski, it’s easy to get used to this kind of steering system.

By pressing the mode button you can choose from various driving modes including Sport, ECO, or Slow.

What’s more, the Crusie Control mode allows you to cruise with a pre-set speed without holding your hand on the throttle lever.

Due to its smaller size and pontoon architecture, the Switch Fish is primarily recommended for small lakes and rivers.

The waves on open waters can easily exceed its capabilities!
