Sea-Doo Fish Pro vs. Yamaha Fishing WaveRunner Comparison

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty and talk about each model in detail!

Dimensions and Weight

The smallest fishing PWC on the market right now is the Sea-Doo Scout built on the GTI platform. This ski is only 130.6 inches long, 49.2 inches wide, and weighs 738 pounds.

Its bigger brothers, the Sport and the Trophy, feature the much bigger ST3 platform. This impressive hull is 146.8 inches long, 49.4 inches wide and offers industry-leading stability.

The dry weight of these machines is 858 pounds, which translates to an approximate curb weight of 1,214 pounds with the trailer.

In contrast, all Yamaha fishing WaveRunners are built on the same 140.9-inch long and 50-inch wide FX hull. You can expect the dry weight of these models to be in the range of 840-877 pounds (ca. 1,200-1,300 pounds with trailer).

Capacities

Surprisingly, the fuel capacity of both the Yamahas and the larger Sea-Doo skis is 18.5 gallons, while the Scout comes with a 15.9-gallon fuel tank.

Just like any other bigger ski on the market, each of these models can carry three passengers.

The storage capacity of the Yamaha ski is a remarkable 44.5 gallons. Although Sea-Doos offer slightly fewer capacities (39.6 to 43.8 gallons), we have to mention their innovative front access storage.

The industry-standard PWC front storage is a bin integrated into the front of the machine. As you can imagine, reaching this storage on open waters is hard to impossible.

This is where Sea-Doo’s innovative design comes into play. Its revolutionary solution allows you to raise the entire handlebar assembly and access the storage without getting up from the seat!

Performance

The entire Sea-Doo Fish Pro fleet is powered by the naturally-aspirated (non-supercharged) Rotax 1630 ACE engine. This 4-stroke, 1630cc triple utilizes the Sea-Doo exclusive closed-loop cooling system and pumps out 130-170 HP depending on the model.

In the Trophy and Sport models, you can find the 170 HP engine option, while the performance of the Scout is limited to 130 HP.

When it comes to Yamaha, fishing skis are available with both naturally-aspirated and supercharged power sources.

This proven 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 1812cc Yamaha Marine engine cranks out 180 or 250 HP, depending on the model. The naturally-aspirated engine option is labeled “HO” (High Output) and delivers 180 HP, while the supercharged “SVHO” (Super Vortex High Output) version produces 250 HP.

Both of these Yamaha Marine engines are known for their reliability, durability, and great fuel economy!

Accessories and Features

The accessories of these fishing skis can be confusing at first glance. Why?

This is because Sea-Doo offers dedicated, “complete” fishing PWCs equipped with necessary fishing accessories. These include the extended rear deck, Garmin Fishfinder/GPS, 13.5-gallon fishing cooler, rod holders, cup holders, and so on.

What’s more, the flagship Trophy utilizes a set of all-new innovative accessories like the modular swivel seat, detachable livewell, larger Garmin 7-inch Touchscreen Fish Finder, dual battery, and a unique anchoring system.

On top of that, each Sea-Doo Fishing PWC has a built-in trolling mode allowing you to set the trolling speed between 1 and 8 mph based on your needs.

Unfortunately, Yamaha fish skis lack this feature and offer only a “no-wake” mode that propels the vessel at a fixed 5 mph.

Sea-Doos also comes with the unique iDF (Intelligent Debris Free) system designed to clean the intake by pressing a button.

You can compare the features of the different Sea-Doo Fish Pro models here.

Unlike the rival Sea-Doos, Yamaha FX skis are marketed as base models. This means that if you want to turn them into a fishing WaveRunner, you have to purchase some optional accessories. But don’t worry, for your convenience, Yamaha offers complete “fishing packages” for its FX WaveRunners.

If you are looking for the best fishing experience, you may want to invest in the RecDeck rear platform, the Premium JetFish package (includes a fishing rack, 12-gallon cooler, rod holders, and cup holders), as well as the 6-inch Garmin Fishfinder/GPS.

If you want to find out more, don’t hesitate to discover the latest Fishing WaveRunner accessories here.

As you can imagine, these accessories come with hefty price tags. Let’s move on and see how much these machines and their accessories cost!

Prices

If we want to make the WaveRunners comparable to the Sea-Doo models, the prices of the Yamaha fishing accessories must also be taken into account.

In a nutshell, the price tags of these optional Yamaha fishing accessories are as follows:

  • RecDeck rear platform: $999.99
  • 6-inch Garmin Fishfinder/GPS $899.99
  • Premium JetFish Package $999.99

Consequently, the entire Yamaha PWC fishing package costs you no less than $2900!

Based on this, the latest prices of the Yamaha and Sea-Doo fishing PWCs are as follows:

SpecsMSRP with Fishing Accessories
Fish Pro Scout$13 899
Fish Pro Sport$15 899
Fish Pro Trophy$17 799
FX HO$17,199
FX Cruiser HO$17,699
FX SVHO$19,699
FX Cruiser SVHO$20,399
FX Limited SVHO$21,999

This year, the cheapest fishing PWC is the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Scout, with a price tag of $13,899. If you are looking for a bigger ski or more advanced features, you should look at the Sport, available for $15,899.

The flagship Trophy comes with the most bells and whistles and is marketed for $17,799 this year.

In comparison, the prices of Yamaha fishing WaveRunners (equipped with the fishing package) start from $17,199 and go up to a whopping $21,999!

The high-end fishing WaveRunners are definitely not cheap, but don’t forget that these skis come with 250 HP supercharged engines.

Each brand and series has its pros and cons, so the final decision comes down to personal preferences.
