Yamaha FX Limited SVHO Review
Dimensions and Capacities
The FX Limited SVHO is considered the top-of-the-line WaveRunner in the Yamaha’s fleet, so it is no surprise that this ski is built on the largest WaveRunner platform.
This 140.9-inch long and 50-inch wide hull offers outstanding stability and capacities.
You can store plenty of gear in the large front storage, the smaller under-seat storage, and the watertight glovebox, which offer a total storage capacity of 44 gallons. With long tours in mind, the FX Limited SVHO utilizes an 18.5-gallon fuel tank.
On top of that, the machine can legally carry three adult riders comfortably, with a total weight capacity of 529 pounds.
Drawbacks?
Mainly its weight, as the dry weight of the 2022 Yamaha FX Limited SVHO is no less than 877 pounds. With the necessary liquids and fuel, you can expect the curb weight of this machine to be around 950-1000 pounds!
Unlike its predecessors manufactured exclusively from the lighter NanoXcel2, the hull of the latest FX WaveRunner is made of SMC fiberglass. This material is proven to be more durable and easier to repair, but on the other hand, it is heavier than NanoXcel2.
Let’s move on and take a look under the hood!
Yamaha FX Limited SVHO Engine and Propulsion
The engine of the Yamaha FX Limited SVHO is the proven 1.8-liter supercharged SVHO Yamaha Marine engine.
The key features of this power mill are as follows:
- Displacement: 1812cc
- 4-stroke
- 4-cylinder
- 16-valve
- Fuel-injection system
- Supercharged and intercooled
- Rated at 250 HP
- Open-Loop cooling system
The direct driveshaft transmits power towards the 160mm high-pressure jet pump. This axial-flow pump features a 3-blade stainless steel impeller with a 17.6° pitch.
Just like any other WaveRunner engine, this unit is cooled with an industry-standard open-loop cooling system.
Yamaha FX Limited SVHO Performance and Handling
Thanks to its high-performance power source, the top speed of the 2022 Yamaha FX Limited SVHO is about 65-68 mph in stock condition.
In accordance with the cooperation between the U.S. Coast Guard and PWC manufacturers, the top speed of WaveRunners is electronically restricted. Overriding this speed limiter results in a 7-8 mph increase in speed, but the ski coud actually hit an amazing 80-85 mph with some additional aftermarket modifications.
These mods are only intended for closed-course competition, of course.
When it comes to the riding experience, it’s safe to say that this ski is much less playful than its smaller brothers. Its large hull is less nimble and not as lively due to its weight and dimensions.
If you compare this ski to the EX family or to its vintage predecessors, the difference is day and night.
Just look at the picture below; the difference in size between this WaveRunner and its vintage predecessor (WR500) is huge.
Let’s face it, the FX Limited SVHO is not designed for playing around. Instead, it’s a stable and comfortable WaveRunner that can be used for various purposes like tow sports, fishing, or even touring.
Thanks to its supercharged engine, it offers thrilling adrenalin rushes, but it won’t do any sit-down jet ski tricks like spins, power slides, or submarine.
